Teaching
Research is always dependent on teaching. Without one, the other would not exist. In this context, high-quality education is the basic prerequisite for successful research. Our mission is to open your mind to science. At the Anatomical Institute at the University of Bonn, we teach in the fields of human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and the Master in Neuroscience.
On the eCampus website, our students can find important organizational information as well as all relevant information relating to the current course content.
Anatomy is not dusty
For Prof. Kürten, although anatomy has grown historically, it is by no means »dusty«, but is still the focus of the curriculum in preclinical medical studies.
»The dissection courses are the highlight for many students«, the anatomy professor knows. By dissecting a cadaver, the aspiring medical students learn about the structure of the human body. Body donors make the decision to bequeath their remains to science during their lifetime. »There are always approaches to abolish the expensive dissection courses, but that would be a disaster.« For example, she says, the haptic perception of organs, as well as their consistency and position in relation to each other, cannot be taught using a digital format. »The courses play a decisive role in shaping what doctors do later«, states Prof. Kürten, who enjoys working with the students.
The fact that this is important to her is evidenced, among other things, by various teaching prizes awarded to her by the University of Cologne, her first place of work, as well as the teaching prizes for human medicine and the prize for molecular medicine she received at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg.
